Ana Claro obtained her degree in 2004 and her PhD in Conservation and Restoration in 2009 from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal.
She was assistant professor at this University (2005–2009) and joined the Associate Laboratory REQUIMTE-CQFB (FCT-UNL) in 2004 and the Medieval Studies Institute (FCSH-UNL) in 2005.
Her primary research focus is the study of materials applied in illuminated manuscripts. She worked at the Getty Conservation Institute as a visiting postdoc.
Presently, she is doing a postdoc research on Asian organic colorants used in Chinese textiles dated from the 16th to 17th centuries: their use, trade, influence and characterization. This work has been doing in 3 institutions: CHAM (FCSH-UNL) , HERCULES laboratory and at Smithsonian institution - Freer and Sackler galleries (USA).
