Mariana Boscariol is graduated in History from the Sao Paulo State University (UNESP, 2009) and has a master degree from the Department of Oriental Languages of the University of Sao Paulo (USP, 2013). After having concluded the Ph.D. in History from the NOVA University of Lisbon (UNL, 2018), from April to September 2018, she was Visitant Researcher of the Faculty of Japanese Studies of the Aichi Prefectural University (APU), in Japan, where she stays as Collaborator Researcher. Her investigation had focused on the Jesuit activity under the Portuguese Patronage authority during the sixteenth century from its geographical limits of action: Brazil, and Japan. Currently, she is interested in expanding this approach, aiming to understand the reception of the Jesuit evangelization by the Japanese people, for what purpose she holds a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. She has experience in Modern History, with emphasis on the sixteenth century, acting on the following themes: Society of Jesus, Jesuit Missionaries, History of Japan, History of Brazil, Evangelization, Cross-Cultural encounters, and Cultural Accommodation.
