Panel 27: Migratory experiences: imagery, visual arts, and entertainment (EN)

Chair:

Carla Vieira, CHAM-NOVA FCSH

This panel brings together interdisciplinary studies that explore how mobility—whether physical, cultural, or symbolic—shapes identity, artistic expression, and collective memory in diverse Lusophone and transnational contexts. Spanning documentary cinema, contemporary and historical film studies, modernist avant-garde aesthetics, and migrant community heritage, the papers examine how movement across borders generates new forms of representation, belonging, and cultural negotiation. Taken together, the panel demonstrates how mobility produces layered cultural forms that both anchor and unsettle identities. By highlighting creative, embodied, and communal responses to displacement and encounter, the papers illuminate the complex processes through which individuals and communities negotiate belonging in a globalised world.
