Taking advantage of the bibliographic and documentary collection of José Toribio Medina, a Chilean Americanist at the turn of the century between the 19th and 20th centuries, the study of the formation of his library is presented as an intellectual history through a concrete example, exemplifying the possibilities it offers for research, also from the perspective of the social history of culture.
