Unesco Chair in" The Ocean’s Cultural Heritage"

The UNESCO Chair on the Oceans' Cultural Heritage was allocated to NOVA University of Lisbon in 2016 and has been coordinated since then by Full Professor João Paulo Oliveira e Costa. This Chair aims at interconnecting several humanities subjects, focusing on the history of the oceans and their cultural heritage, particularly during Early Modern Age. A network of organisations across the Atlantic - Europe-Africa-America has been established including researchers and students who also extend their action toward the public, allowing experiences, didactic materials, and knowledge to be shared through the development of research, education, and awareness-raising activities. The Chair furthers and incorporates these actions in the scope of the oceans' cultural heritage, underwater cultural heritage, and archaeology, environment and history, fostering good practices and cooperation.
