Workshop26.04.2023
History and Methodology
4:00 pm | CAN - Almada Negreiros College, SA RoomColonial Monuments in Public Space: Materialities, Imposed Memories, and Contested Historical Narratives, by Victor Barros (Casa de Velázquez e IHC — NOVA FCSH / IN2PAST)

This workshop is intended for researchers in history (Master's, PhD students, postdoctoral researchers) who wish to acquire and deepen techniques for analyzing materials necessary for understanding their historical research objects. Each material conveys knowledge. Its questioning and interpretations require the use of rigorous and, simultaneously, creative methodology. The historical sources called upon by this workshop will therefore be diverse and complementary: official and unofficial documents, material and immaterial such as sounds, objects, and images.

Each two-hour session, consisting of a theoretical-practical component, will be led by experts in humanities and social sciences. The approaches will cover various historical periods (medieval, modern, contemporary) from an interdisciplinary perspective. Admission is free and sessions begin at 4:00 pm.
