The colloquium «Martyrs of Morocco: Evocation of the 800 Years of Martyrdom» will be based on the convergence of different approaches to the theme, within the scope of History, Art History, Philology and Anthropology.

In the first session - «History and Memory» the historical context of the Kingdom of Portugal and the urban and ecclesiastical framework of the city of Coimbra in the 13th century will be analyzed.

The second session - «Spirituality and Materiality» - will bring studies on Franciscan and Mendicant spirituality and on the hagiographic texts, responsible for fixing the iconography models of the Holy Five Martyrs and explaining the evolution of the relics cult in Portugal. The anthropologic results of the relics analysed, deposited in the Monastery of Santa Cruz, in Coimbra, will be presented also.
