Nearly eight centuries after the founding of the redemptionist orders, the Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa (Lisbon Geographic Society) is promoting* an International Conference dedicated to the activity of Trinitarians and Mercedarians in the Luso-Hispanic world, from the perspectives of history, art and heritage. The conference will take place from 20 to 23 July and will bring together contributions of researchers and interested parties, focusing on the following thematic areas:
Structure and institutional history (branches, reforms)
Identity: charisma, intellectual horizons and spiritual currents
Redemption of captives and relations between Christianity / Islam
Missions, assistance and education
Cult, devotions and indulgences
Property, income and economic impact
Brotherhoods, hospitals and their relationship with the Misericórdias (Houses of Mercy)
Architectural heritage, arts, iconology and music
Historiography, hagiography and biography
Libraries, archives and sources
Other redemptionist orders
