The Manual is part of the material in support of the educational project of UNESCO, "Heritage for peace and Reconciliation", in the context of the Evocation of the Centenary of the World War I, and that will help educators to introduce the concepts of dialogue, peace and reconciliation in their curriculum, through understanding of cultural heritage, and, specifically, the submerged heritage.
The underwater cultural heritage of the First World War offers a unique testimony of the past.
The project was accepted by all States parties to the UNESCO Convention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage in 2001, where they intend to use the centenary of World War I to promote education for peace, more specifically by promoting understanding and protection of underwater heritage.
This UNESCO Manual, edited in the Portuguese version, will be the first tool on the subject of teacher training centers’ in Portugal, and for the first time.
