The VI COIMI Americas will take place at the State University of Bahia (UNEB), in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, from February 25 to 28, 2026. This edition of COIMI aims to broaden dialogues between Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, and to discuss a new epistemological, historical, linguistic, political, decolonial, and interdisciplinary paths regarding histories, territorialities, Indigenous knowledge, and perspectives for bem-viver (good living).
Additionally, it seeks to expand the network that has been built by COIMI within the framework of the Permanent Seminar on Indigenous Worlds - Abya Yala (SEPMIAI), integrating universities and researchers from countries in the Americas and Europe who are already conducting research and extension projects with curricular practices in Basic and Higher Education on Indigenous issues.
In this edition of COIMI, particular importance will be given to Indigenous histories, territorialities, and knowledge as interconnected elements that reveal the complex trajectory of the original peoples of Abya Yala. The Indigenous history of different peoples and geographies, often marked by processes of depopulation, struggles, and agencies for survival since the 16th century, is intrinsically linked to the importance of their territorialities and the value of their ancestrals.
