
Writer, actress and theatre director Raquel Castro will take part in a talk about her work at NOVA FCSH, focusing in particular on the play As Castro (2024). The event will take place on 24 November, at 6 p.m., in Room D120 (Building D, Av. Berna), and is open to all. It is organised within the scope of the seminar “Feminist Theory and Literary Experience” (Master’s in Women’s Studies).
Raquel Castro holds a degree in Theatre – Actor Training from the Lisbon Theatre and Film School (2005–2008). As an actress, she has worked in theatre with Pedro Gil, Gonçalo Amorim, Madalena Victorino, Giacomo Scalisi, Ricardo Gageiro, Mickael Oliveira, Nuno M. Cardoso, Mónica Calle, Rui Pina Coelho, Tónan Quito and Tiago Rodrigues. In cinema, she played the lead role in Cidade Rabat by Susana Nobre and was part of the casts of Miami by Simão Cayatte and Duas Mulheres by João Mário Grilo.
Raquel Castro created the performance Os Dias são Connosco (2013, Teatro Maria Matos), the exhibition/performance Uma Retrospectiva (2013, Negócio/ZDB), in collaboration with Mariana Tengner Barros, directed and performed Esther Gerritsen’s play Dona de Casa (2014, Negócio/ZDB), and A Morte de Raquel (2020, Teatro São Luiz), among others.
She is the author of As Castro, a play premiered in 2023 and published in book form in 2024. The work addresses the desire to uncover the women among the protagonist’s ancestors, in a genealogical search that is also a path to understanding herself and her closest female relatives.
