RelicS will take place from 24 to 26 September 2026 at the University of Évora, as part of the Holy Bodies research project (https://doi.org/10.54499/2022.01486.PTDC). The aim is to strengthen and consolidate the study of relics and reliquaries as an interdisciplinary field of research, bringing together researchers and professionals from different areas and contexts.
The conference will have a hybrid format: there will be face-to-face sessions at the University of Évora and livestreaming, allowing national and international audiences to participate. The programme will include guest lectures, presentations and thematic panels dedicated to the following topics: devotion, patronage and the circulation of sacred relics; ritual, authentication and the construction of meaning; heritage sciences and approaches to the conservation of religious heritage; and digital tools and strategies for mediating the sacred.
The call for abstracts is open until 10 May.
