Ana Maria Martinho has been an Associate Professor with habilitation at FCSH - Universidade Nova de Lisboa since 1990 as well as a Researcher at CHAM and an Affiliated Researcher at CREPAL Recently retired from teaching, she is a visiting faculty member at several universities and lectures extensively in Africa, Europe and the USA and is a member of the Academia de Letras de Angola and of the Cátedra de Língua Portuguesa at Universidade Católica de Angola.

She has coordinated and authored courses and programs and supervised research at all academic levels.

Her work and publications center on Literatures and Cultures from Portuguese Speaking Countries with a secondary interest in Portuguese as a Foreign and Second Language.
