The session will be attended by historian Francisco Maduro-Dias and is organised by the History degree programme, as part of the course on Methods of Acquisition, Inventory and Heritage Classification, in partnership with the Academy of Arts (UAc.artes) and with the support of CHAM Açores.
Entitled ‘“A implantação do Gabinete da Zona Classificada de Angra do Heroísmo – centro histórico inscrito na Lista do Património Mundial da UNESCO”, the seminar will address the creation, in 1987, of the Angra do Heroísmo Classified Zone Office, following the international classification of the historic centre in 1983 by UNESCO.
Policies for the protection, conservation and enhancement of urban heritage will be analysed, with emphasis on the leadership of Francisco Maduro-Dias between 1987 and 2000 and his decisive contribution to the consolidation of an integrated heritage protection strategy.
The initiative is designed for students and anyone interested in the evolution of Azorean historical heritage management.
