Horizontes del Mundo Amazónico: Historia, Ciencia y Memoria Indígena

The event aims to create a space for critical reflection and dialogue on the urgent challenges currently facing the Amazon, highlighting its importance as a climate regulator, a biodiversity hotspot and the cradle of a rich indigenous cultural diversity. The event, which pays tribute to the legacy of researcher Juan Marchena Fernández, aims to analyse the threats arising from deforestation, extractive policies and illegal activities, as well as to preserve and disseminate the traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples, which is at risk. Through collaboration between academics, indigenous leaders and international organisations, the aim is to promote sustainable and respectful solutions that integrate science, history and indigenous memory, reinforcing the need to protect the collective rights and cultural identity of Amazonian peoples, whilst building a fairer and more balanced future for the region.
