The seminar «As Ilhas Desconhecidas: 100 Years of Raul Brandão» is part of a project organized by the Agência de Promoção da Cultura Atlântica (APCA), in collaboration with the Direcção Regional da Cultura dos Açores and the University of the Azores, through UAc.artes and CHAM — Centre for the Humanities. Throughout 2026, these institutions will promote a series of scientific and cultural initiatives in the Azores and Madeira archipelagos, notably the traveling exhibition «Raul Brandão and the Azores: As Ilhas Desconhecidas», organized by the Luís da Silva Ribeiro Public Library and Regional Archive.
The main objective of the exhibition is to showcase the Azores through the eyes and writings of Raul Brandão, marking the centennial of the publication of As Ilhas Desconhecidas and highlighting the significance of his literary and cultural legacy for understanding the islands’ identity.
Meanwhile, a documentary dedicated to this project will be screened, followed by a roundtable discussion with experts on the life, work, and legacy of Raul Brandão.
