Descrição Geral do Reino do Peru, em particular de Lima

This text, written during the first half of the 17th century, reflects the experience of many Portuguese, often involved in trade, who travelled through Andean territory during the period of union of the Iberian crowns. The papers included in this publication address this circulation between empires from different perspectives, showing the relations that existed between Iberian subjects, apart from the legal separation established in Tomar.

Readers interested in aspects such as trade, the nature of Peruvian territory, its geography and agriculture will find in this book a wealth of very detailed information, also concerning the different human groups that lived and circulated in Peru. This edition includes two types of notes: on the one hand, notes of a historical nature, with the aim of clarifying terms and concepts specific to Peruvian and Spanish-American colonial history; and on the other hand, comments on the translation which aim at drawing attention to the linguistic singularities of the text. Lastly, we have edited the transcription of a document related to the inquisitorial process endured by the author, preserved in the National Historical Archive of Madrid.
