João Moreira wins the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's 2025 European History Prize

 

 

João Moreira, senior researcher at CHAM, was awarded the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's 2025 European History Prize for his book Intelectuais portugueses e a ideia de esquerda num tempo de transição (1968-1986) - os casos de António José Saraiva, Eduardo Pradro Coelho e João Martins Pereira.

 

The book is based on the researcher's doctoral thesis. The thesis had already been recognised in 2023 with the Victor de Sá Prize for Contemporary History - University of Minho and the Mário Soares Prize - EDP Foundation.

 

The award ceremony for the 2025 European History Prize will take place at the Portuguese Academy of History in Lisbon on 3 December at 5.00 p.m.

 

In the past, other CHAM researchers have also won this award, namely: Carla Vieira in 2022, for her work Nação entre Impérios: Judeus Portugueses e a Aliança Luso-Britânica (século XVIII), João Paulo Oliveira e Costa in 2023, for his work Portugal na História - Uma Identidade, and David Soares in 2024, in the category of Modern and Contemporary History of Portugal, for his work O Bobo e o Alquimista: Deformidade Física e Moral na Corte de D. João III.
