4-OCEANS honoured with UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES

The 4-OCEANS research project was honoured with recognition from UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES award, establishing itself as an excellent example of transdisciplinary sustainability science anchored in the humanities.

4-OCEANS investigates how marine ecosystems and human societies have shaped each other over the centuries. Its findings contribute to the promotion of sustainable ocean management, the guidance of conservation strategies and the formulation of informed public policies.

The UNESCO-MOST BRIDGES recognition is the result of a rigorous evaluation process, highlighting 4-OCEANS' alignment with the principles of ethical, socially responsible, transformative and community-oriented science. This distinction reinforces the international impact of the project led by Poul Holm (Trinity College Dublin), James H. Barrett (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), Cristina Brito (CHAM - NOVA FCSH) and Francis Ludlow (Trinity College Dublin).
