Carlos Benítez Trinidad has a PhD by the Universidade Federal da Bahia (BR) and the Universidad Pablo de Olavide (SP), defended in April 2017 and funded by the Brazilian agency CAPES. He is also a graduate in history from the Universidad de Cádiz and has a master's degree in American Studies from the Universidad de Sevilla. The stay research in Ecuador for the dissertation was funded by the International Cooperation Office of that university and was about the problems of identity among kichwas indigenous in the Ecuadorian amazon. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela with a contract funded by the Xunta de Galicia, and a fellow researcher at the CHAM-Universidade Nova de Lisboa. The postdoctoral research is about colonial heritage, inequality, and racism in the Lusophone Atlantic in the twentieth century, tracking the imagery for dominating in comparative historical perspective between Portugal and Brazil. His production ranges from books, book chapters and papers about the representation of otherness in the imaginary of the dominating societies during the colonialism and post-colonialism of the twentieth century, especially in the indigenous issue, authoritarianism, and the interethnic societies in a decolonial way of Brazil and Latin America. His fields of research are contemporary history, social and cultural history, comparative history, cross-cultural studies and postcolonial studies; now is aiming to add environmental history to complete the framework. His networking effort is widely justified, first, with the already veteran project ‘Iberoamérica Social: Revista-red de estudios sociales’ (2013), a contribution to social justice decolonizing the knowledge, a network between researchers and social organizations with epistemological dynamics of counterpower, demonstrating that science can be done from the non-academic social common. Also, he works in the public sphere in some public history projects, either joining, as an editor in the História da Ditadura project, or creating new ones such as História em Quarentena, made to contribute the fight against the isolation of the population by the health crisis of covid-19.
