NOVA RESEARCH PORTAL
Carolina Subtil Pereira completed her Bachelor’s degree in History at NOVA/FCSH in 2017. At the same institution, in 2020, she obtained a Master’s degree in Early Modern History and the Discoveries, with a dissertation entitled «The place where you are is holy ground»:Visions and Perceptions of the Oriental and Biblical Antiquity in Portuguese Travel Accounts (16th–17th centuries), which was awarded the highest grade of 20. Since January 2020, she has been an integrated researcher at CHAM.
Her work focuses mainly on religious and cultural themes, with a particular emphasis on the analysis of Portuguese travellers’ and missionaries’ accounts, written by those who crossed borders driven by spiritual motivations. Her research covers a wide geographical scope, extending from Europe to Asia, with special attention to contexts of missionary activity and cultural circulation.
She also holds a postgraduate degree in Underwater Archaeology (IPT/UAL) and is currently a PhD candidate in the History of the Discoveries and Portuguese Expansion (NOVA/FCSH), exploring the relationship between travel experiences, spirituality, and cultural perceptions within the global spaces of the Early Modern period.
