Mariana Boscariol was a Junior Researcher at NOVA FCSH. As a full researcher at CHAM - Centre for the Humanities, she held the position of vice-coordinator of the research group "Environment, Interactions and Globalization" and actively participated in the ERC Synergy Project "4-OCEANS", the MSCA Staff Exchanges "EDGES", and the UNESCO Chair "The Cultural Heritage of the Oceans". Boscariol earned a PhD in History from NOVA University Lisbon (2018) and an MA in Japanese Language, Literature, and Culture from the Department of Oriental Languages of the University of São Paulo (2013). Her research focused on the Jesuits' presence in Brazil and East Asia during the 16th and 17th centuries. She explored different aspects of the cross-cultural, environmental, and economic history of the Portuguese Empire in both regions, particularly regarding the connectivity and flux between different trading posts and positions.
