Marco Serote Roos graduated with a degree in History from the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NOVA FCSH) in 2020. He obtained his Master’s degree from the same faculty in 2023, specialising in the Modern Era and the Age of Discovery. His academic focus is geographically on Central Asia and temporally on the modern era, having written a dissertation entitled “Portuguese Travels and Travelers in Central Asia (15th–17th centuries)”. He is currently a PhD student in History at the same faculty, continuing the work begun in his master’s degree, but now studying the social, material and day-to-day realities of travel along the Silk Roads of Central Asia in the modern era. He holds an FCT scholarship at the Macao Cultural and Scientific Centre and is a non-PhD collaborator at CHAM. He represented NOVA FCSH at the 10th General Assembly of the Silk Road Universities Network (SUN), which took place in Samarkand in October 2025. He has also participated in various conferences, where he presented his work on Central Asia. In addition, he is a student and practitioner of historical fencing (HEMA) and historical re-enactment, taking part in various re-enactment events both in Portugal and abroad.
