Raquel Santos is a specialist in developing tools to support the study and preservation of historical textiles and correspondent researcher at the Center for Humanities (CHAM) in the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (FCSH) at the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. She obtained her PhD in history in 2017 by developing an interdisciplinary approach to establish the production and consumption of classical Islamic carpets. She was a conservation and curatorial fellow (2012–1016) at the Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, working in collaboration with The Textile Museum, The National Gallery of Art, and the former Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. She has supported the White House, The Frick Collection in New York, and more recently the Rietberg Museum in Zurich and continues working to study, preserve, and promote textile heritage, in particular, by focusing on translating complex topics into accessible information in the digital domain.
