Theme: From archives and academia to politics and pop culture. European medievalism(s) in the 19th and 20th centuries

In this first session of the seminar, we will focus on the relation between the often-called “scientific” history and its “popular” uses.

Taking as object the study of the representation and uses of the Middle Ages in the modern period, we will discuss the boundaries between fields that are usually understood separately – from academic history and archival work to the uses of medieval history in politics and popular culture.
