The documentary Guardadoras de Histórias, Guardiãs da Palavra, part of the WomenLit project, will be screened at the 8th edition of Porto Femme – International Film Festival, taking place from 7 to 13 April at Batalha Centro de Cinema, in Porto.

This year, the festival reaffirms its commitment to equality and empowerment in cinema, featuring 120 films in competition from 35 countries — including 5 world premieres, 7 international premieres, 3 European premieres and 48 national premieres.

About the WomenLit Project

WomenLit aims to explore the poetic and literary expressions of resistance in female-authored literary and artistic production published across the Luso-Afro-Brazilian world in the 21st century. Resistance, as a driving force of artistic and literary creation, arises from an awareness of gender, racial and economic inequalities that persist globally.

The Documentary

As part of the project, the documentary Guardians of Stories, Guardians of the Word brings together women writers from the Luso-Afro-Brazilian Atlantic to reflect on creative practice, memory, marginality, and literary and cultural resistance.

The film features Eliana N’Zualo, Ellen Lima Wassu, Énia Wa Ka Lipanga, Gisela Casimiro, Fátima Bettencourt, Fernanda Vieira, Odete and Paula Tavares — writers from different generations and territories, whose voices contribute to building a plural and resilient literary memory.
