The manor house, as an element of built cultural heritage, presents complex challenges in terms of its interpretation, preservation, use, functionality and contemporary relevance. This webinar proposes a discussion related to the study of manor houses in Portugal, Goa, and Brazil, exploring their historical roles and the cultural value they embody today. Building upon discussions initiated during the 9th International Colloquium «The Manor House in Portugal, Brazil, and Goa. Anatomy of Interiors. Centers and peripheries, crossroads and circulations», held in May in Ponta Delgada, this session brings together three leading Portuguese experts in the fields of Architecture, Art History, and History of Architecture to deepen, through comparative case studies from Portugal, Goa, and Brazil, the interactions of ideas, individuals, and construction techniques between centers of power and peripheral locations, encompassing urban, peri-urban, and rural contexts, in a conversation moderated by Mafalda Batista Pacheco, architect and researcher.
