«A brief introduction to...» the archaeology of death, with Rodrigo Banha da Silva

Does the ‘archaeology of death’ reveal more about the living or the dead? From an ethical point of view, is it acceptable to include mummies or other human remains in public exhibitions? Does the way death and the dead are viewed also change depending on the location of the necropolises? Archaeologist Rodrigo Banha da Silva answers these questions and reflects on the advantages of combining tools from disciplines such as chemistry, anthropology and history, among other issues. The interview is conducted by Isabel Araújo Branco.

Rodrigo Banha da Silva is a researcher at CHAM – Centre for Humanities, where he coordinates the research group ‘Archaeology of Landscapes’. A professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa since 2004, Rodrigo Banha da Silva develops and coordinates archaeology projects within the scope of Lisbon City Council's activities.

In the next episode, Sandra Ataíde Lobo discusses the African press and resistance to colonialism.
