The First International Conference "Afro-Atlantic Transits: Literary and Artistic Routes in the Creation of Good Living Between Africa, Brazil, and Portugal" aims to discuss forms of writing and artistic creation as they circulate across continents, with a special focus on the artistic and literary production of African diasporas, both in their contemporary manifestations and in the historicization of Black thought. It focuses on forms of writing, the examination of their reception and legacy, and the power imbalances that influence these processes.
The central objective is to understand how artistic and literary works and intellectual thought produced by Black people and/or approaches that are postcolonial, decolonial, and/or centered on Black epistemology have contributed decisively to the decolonization of knowledge and being, while also examining their effects on the coloniality of power.
Some of these contributions have been reinventing the ways of doing and saying in art and literature, research methods, and theories of literature and culture, in an effort to recreate the epistemological repertoire of the arts and the humanities, aware that decolonization is not possible if we replicate the forms of knowledge production that created and/or justified the colonial world.
We invite researchers, students, activists, and the entire community to join us at this event. Come and work with us to develop new literary and artistic perspectives and philosophies of Good Living that decolonize our worldview, our language, and our history.
