Salvador da Bahia: retratos de uma cidade atlântica
An impressive port since the end of the 16th century, the city of Bahia was intensely involved in Atlantic trade and slave trafficking. As both the capital of colonial Brazil and a universal emporium, ecclesiastical metropolis, and, almost by default, cosmopolitan city, it was since then a place of diverse influences and profound reconfigurations. This volume proposes a series of portraits focused on institutions, as well as on the practices and representations of social actors engaged in this Atlantic city between the 17th and 19th centuries.
