This project aims to build a candidature for an ERC-Advanced project on the experience of survival to decadence in the European continental empires between the 18th and 20th centuries, and its influence since the transition to modernity on the encrusting of cultural preconceptions and the rise of collective identities overflowing individual citizenship. To this end, it creates a network organised into 2 groups comprising 19 researchers from 15 research centres in 8 countries.
