António Martins Gomes holds a PhD in Anglo-Portuguese Studies and is a professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the Nova University of Lisbon since 1995, whose activity focuses predominantly on 19th-century Portuguese culture. He has participated in numerous congresses and conferences and has published texts on culture, literature, and art in periodicals and collective works, notably his collaboration in the Comparative Literary History of Modern Slavery, with the chapter “Bárbora and Jau: Slavery in the life and poetry of Luís de Camões” (John Benjamins, 2024), in ERNIE – Encyclopedia of Romantic Nationalism in Europe (Amsterdam University Press, 2018), and the organization of the Critical Anthology of 19th-Century Portuguese Culture (Ex-Libris, 2016).
