Dora Nunes Gago was a faculty member at the University of Macau (China) for about ten years (2012-2022), first as an Assistant Professor, then promoted to Associate Professor of Literature in the Department of Portuguese, having served as vice-director and director of that department, as well as coordinator of postgraduate programs.
She holds a PhD in Comparative Romance Languages and Literatures from Nova University of Lisbon (2007), a Master’s degree in Comparative Literary Studies (Univ. Nova de Lisboa), and a Bachelor’s degree in Portuguese and French (Univ. de Évora). She was a lecturer of the Camões Institute at University of Republica Oriental, in Uruguay ; a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Aveiro, and a visiting post-doctoral scholar at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (United States). She was also a Visiting Adjunct Professor at the School of Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.
She has developed several research projects, she regularly participates in international conferences, and has published a considerable number of articles in academic journals and book chapters. Among her published books stand out: Imagens do estrangeiro no Diário de Miguel Torga, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian/FCT, and Uma Cartografia do Olhar: exílios, imagens do estrangeiro e intertextualidades na literatura portuguesa (Ed. Húmus, 2020, finalist for the Pen Club Essay Prize in 2021).
In addition, she has also published fiction and poetry, and in 2024 was awarded the Maria Ondina Braga Grand Prize for Travel Literature by the APE (Portuguese Writers Association).
She is a collaborator of CETAPS (Nova University of Lisbon) and ORION (Center for Comparative Studies at the University of Lisbon).
