She holds a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science (University of Lisboa, 2013) with a dissertation on the impact of Garcia de Orta's work, Colóquios dos Simples e Drogas e Coisas Medicinais da Índia (Goa, 1563), in Early Moderne Science (Research supported by FCT, SFRH/BD/41735/2007). She has a degree in Agronomic Engineering (ISA, 1987) and a master's degree in Integrated Pest Management (ISA, 1996).

In her research, she analyzes the circulation of medical-botanical knowledge in the European sources of the 1500’s; examines the diffusion and appropriation of representations of flora in the Early Modern period; studies the impacts of the global transfer of plant species throughout the 16th-17th centuries (Research supported by FCT, SFRH/BPD/119899/2016).

She is the author of numerous publications and conferences on the topics of her research. The version of the doctoral thesis – Os desafios de Garcia de Orta. Colóquios dos Simples e Drogas da India (Lisboa, 2015) was distinguished with a mention of the "Almirante Teixeira da Mota" Award (Academia de Marinha, 2014). In collaboration with Rui Manuel Loureiro, she published a modernized and annotated version of Colóquios dos Simples de Garcia de Orta (Lisbon, 2024).

She collaborated in the organization and curatorship of different exhibitions, among which the following stand out: 360º - Science Discovered (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, 2013); The Emperor’s flowers. From the Bulb to the Carpet (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, 2018) and The World Seen from the Oceans: The First Journey Around the World traced by the Collections of the Lisbon Geographical Society (Sociedade de Geografia de Lisboa, 2019).
