Inês Vaz is a PhD student and recipient of a PhD research grant provided by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). Pursuing a degree in Modern Literatures and Cultures at NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities, the focus of her research is fantasy fiction, namely, representations of monstrous creatures in contemporary animation works. Holding an MA degree in English and North-American Studies from the same institution, her master's dissertation looked at female renditions of the monomyth in children’s fantasy literature. Other published works explore many of the same themes, and others, within fantasy contexts.
