The Index-PRIMA Meeting: Challenges of Religious Mobile Heritage, organized by CHAM in collaboration with the University of the Azores and the Diocesan Service of Cultural Goods of the Church, will take place on the upcoming days of June 16th and 17th, in the audiovisual room of FCSH-University of the Azores and online via Zoom.

This meeting is part of the project "Index - Understanding the intangible, mobile, and archival religious heritage of São Miguel." The religious character is an unquestionable identity and historical feature of the Azoreans, particularly the people of São Miguel. Therefore, there are numerous religious manifestations that have been and still are part of the daily life of this community. From a considerable range of festivities, processions, pilgrimages, and rituals to the mobile assets that materialize and express faith, as well as the documentary collections that record the memories of experiences, there is a vast and less apparent heritage that is important to reveal and safeguard. Thus, the project aimed at conducting exploratory surveys and studies of the intangible, mobile, and archival religious heritage of São Miguel, with the purpose of developing and updating knowledge, safeguarding such heritage, and leveraging it as a non-renewable resource and an inexhaustible source of knowledge about the identity and culture of the Azores.
