2020 is marked by the commemoration of the death of Benito Pérez Galdó (1843-1920), one of the most important authors in Spanish Literature, regarding the Spanish Realism literature. Also, 2020 marks 135 years of this author’s journey to Portugal, a journey we can read about in two extensive texts. These reasons joined Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and Instituto Cervantes de Lisboa to organize an international conference to commemorate Benito Pérez Galdós’ writing and thought. Thus, our conference aims to discuss and study the findings and relationships between Pérez Galdós, Portuguese writers, and other personalities. It will be highlighted the promotion of comparative literary studies among Realism authors of the late 19th Century in Spain and Portugal, their literary devices and themes, as well as their presence. and representation in the beginnings of this 21st Century.
