On November 9th, our dear colleague and friend, Teresa Alarcão, would have celebrated her birthday. Born in Coimbra, Teresa Alarcão worked at the National Museum of Costume and the National Museum of Ancient Art. Here, she assumed the role of curator of the textile collection and conducted pioneering, unique, and pivotal research in this field of work. She established and set standards for inventorying Textiles and Embroidered Vestments and encouraged their systematic and rigorous study, generously and enthusiastically sharing her knowledge with all those interested in this topic. For these and other reasons, a group of colleagues intends to pay tribute to Teresa Alarcão on this day by organizing a conference at the National Museum of Ancient Art, focusing on the study of textiles in Portugal.
