This seminar aims to rethink the category of gender in historiographical discourse, at a time when this topic is being permanently questioned. Portuguese historiography continues to refer to the category of gender from the perspective of studying women's history, although in the last two decades some debates on masculinity and queer issues have emerged. This permanent seminar aims to discuss new theoretical and empirical perspectives on this topic in an informal setting, with the participation of civil society. The purpose extends beyond academic discussions, but aims to involve people outside academia in discussions about the historical evolution of the gender category and how rethinking its historical evolution in current research could have an impact on contemporaneity. Every two months, we propose that, in a space outside academia (such as bookstores, public libraries and cultural associations), new historiographical perspectives are discussed, on the one hand, or theoretical perspectives considered by other sciences, on the other. The permanent seminar thus not only has the objective of academic discussion of certain topics, but also aims to disseminate new scientific perspectives on this subject to audiences engaged or not in promoting gender equality, as we believe that an understanding of history can help the decision-making of stakeholders involved in this contemporary process. However, we want these debates and dissemination to be carried out in a scientifically rigorous manner, without anachronisms and avoiding militant language, as we believe that history has a relevant role to play in enlightening society about the dynamics of gender relations.
