João Pedro Rosa Ferreira is a researcher (investigador integrado doutorado) at CHAM - Centre for the Humanities, NOVA FCSH-UAc, working within the research group Information, Reading and the Forms of Writing. He holds a Ph. D. in History and Theory of Ideas, a Master's degree in Cultural and Political History, and has graduated in History. He is the author of books, book chapters, double-blind peer reviewed articles published in indexed scientific journals (including Scopus, Web of Science and Qualis A1 and A2 indexers) and papers presented at scientific conferences in Portugal, USA, UK, France, Poland, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. He was scientific curator of the exhibition Salgueiro Maia Jornalista and co-organiser of the conference Salgueiro Maia, Imprensa Militar e Cultura Política held at NOVA FCSH, Lisbon, as part of the commemorations of the 50 years of the 25 April Revolution. As of 2024 he is the vice-president of the International Society for Luso-Hispanic Humor Studies (ISLHHS). Member of the Society for the History of Authorship, Reading and Publishing (SHARP) and of the International Society for Humor Studies (ISHS). His research was funded by grants and fellowships from Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) and CRIMIC / Sorbonne Lettres. A professional journalist, he was editor and executive editor of several Portuguese newspapers and newsmagazines. Currently he is a contributing editor to magazine Domingo, sunday supplement of newspaper Correio da Manhã. His main research interests are nineteenth century cultural history, political history, history of the press, history of the book and humor studies.
