José António Bettencourt. Completed the PhD in History- speciality in Archaeology in 2018 by Universidade NOVA de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, has a Master in Archaeology (2008 )and a Degree in History- speciality in Archaeology in 2001, at the same University. He is an Invited Assistant Professor at Universidade NOVA de Lisboa Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas, where he teaches Nautical and Underwater Archaeology. He is also a Visitant Invited Professor at Universidad de Cadiz (SP) and Universidad del Norte (CO). He is also a researcher at CHAM. His research interests are underwater and maritime archaeology, Atlantic history and maritime heritage dissemination. Between 2000 and 2009, he developed his career in the National Centre for Nautical and Underwater Archaeology (CNANS), having co-directed the second phase of archaeological work in the Ria de Aveiro A wreck (2000-2006). In CNANS, he participated in several research projects in Portugal and in underwater cultural heritage management. Currently, he is responsible for the work in maritime archaeology developed by CHAM in several projects in Portugal, mainland and islands, and Cape Verde.
