João Moreira holds a PhD in History from ISCTE. His doctoral thesis focused on the transformation of the Portuguese cultural landscape during the period from 1968 to 1986, specifically analyzing the theoretical and political trajectory of António José Saraiva, Eduardo Prado Coelho, and João Martins Pereira. This work was awarded the Mário Soares Prize - EDP Foundation 2023 and the Victor de Sá Contemporary History Prize 2023.

He is the author of several articles on Portuguese intellectuals and has published a collection of texts by João Martins Pereira on Portugal's integration process into the European Economic Community.

In addition to studying the national cultural and intellectual landscape, he also delves into the history of radical left organizations, particularly those aligned with the theoretical and political legacy of Leon Trotsky - the subject of his master's dissertation.
