The International Seminar on Indo-Portuguese History has brought together researchers from around the world for nearly 50 years to promote the multidisciplinary and universal study of historical relations between India and Portugal. Across its sixteen meetings held between 1978 and 2024, the Seminar has gathered hundreds of scholars, most of whom are now leading figures in international historiography. Several interpretive frameworks that currently shape the history of the Indian Ocean and maritime Asia in the early modern period were first presented at these seminars, marking major milestones in global historiographies and the restoration of political and cultural relations between the involved nations.

The scientific focus of the XVII ISIPH centers on Heritage, proposing a holistic and comprehensive approach rooted in a shared history and legacy. This legacy is to be revisited through fresh inquiries aligned with current international research goals, using diverse methodologies and concepts from both multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives.

Within this framework, we welcome paper proposals on ongoing academic research, fieldwork results, and community projects related to, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Intangible heritage: practices, knowledge, and agents;
• Visual heritage: objects, techniques, materials, and artists/artisans;
• Built heritage: influences, hybrid models, and other forms;
• The challenges of heritage-making, discourses (post-colonial, resignification, revisionism), and national and international policies;
• Heritage management, practices (conservation, restoration, and sustainability), and mediation (communication and audience management);
• Digital humanities, evolving concepts, and changing institutions: museums, archives, and libraries.

The Organizing Committee invites proposals featuring the following elements:

• Title;
• Author, institutional affiliation, and email address;
• An abstract of the proposed paper (up to 300 words).
