The project RESISTANCE. Rebellion and Resistance in the Iberian Empires, 16th-19th centuries  intends to study resistance of subordinated social groups in Iberian empires of the past (1500-1850) from a “bottom-up” perspective. It pursues a comparative approach between different spaces, comprising Europe, America, Asia and Africa. The analysis will cover both, phenomena of active and passive resistance, as well as its real transforming impacts.

Goals

The project aims to transfer knowledge achieved by its team to today’s society, in order to understand present Iberian and former colonies’ societies and their political, social, cultural and economic challenges.
