This group carries the legacy of a large series of works on the political and institutional history of the Portuguese empire. Concurrently, it has also developed an interest in the inner working processes of important administrative, support and advisory bodies to the Crown. This group has recently been redefined as a space for reflection and analysis on the multiple forms of the political sphere and the institutions and agents that have embodied power, in very diverse territories, from the end of the 14th century to the present day.
The group also seeks to put forward and develop new readings and interpretations of the social and economic processes that contributed to the emergence of the modern state and to the configuration of contemporaneity.
